Recently we have noticed a trend toward
wide plank softwood floors here in the Pacific Northwest. Wide
pine floorboards have been commonplace in New England for centuries
and the methods of milling and installing have changed little.
When
Gary laid wide plank pine floors in his own home back in 1980
, fellow woodworkers and contractors raised their eyebrows at
such an unconventional floor. But 25 years and 4 kids later,
it has taken on a warm patina and has only been refinished once.
The flooring we provide today is milled from reclaimed barnboards
brought in from the dry Western States. After we plane and straightline
the planks, they are normally face nailed with square cut nails
provided by the Tremont Nail Company in Wareham, Massachusetts
(the town where Gary's father was born.) While we do not install
flooring we can help your contractor with any questions that
may arise.
